Icelandic News   iceland

11th July 2017

Most rivers had a good start to the new season with many seeing large MSW salmon up to 20lbs being caught.

Although there was little snow in Iceland over the winter, water heights are good as I write, due to a prolonged period of rain.

Everything seems to be about two weeks early, certainly the expected good grilse runs were evident at the beginning of July.

The West Coast rivers had a really good start with fine MSW fish from Haffjardara Nordura and Grimsa. Grimsa got off to a tremendous start with 233 fish caught by 5th July with a mixture of salmon and grilse. Langa and Laxa in Kjos saw very healthy catches in the early weeks. Laxa in Dolum very pleasingly had some fine MSW fish to 20lbs in the first few days.

The North West rivers such as Midfjardara, Vididalsa, Vatnsdalsa have fished quite well but not matching the corresponding figures of last year. Everyone however is confident that fishing for the rest of the season will be good on these superb rivers.

There are just a few slots available on some rivers this season for late bookers.
